To Be An Intern Or Not To Be An Intern?

That is the question a lot of people seem to ask me. This is where this week’s blog comes in handy as it will give an insight into the benefits of a good Internship. By the way it does not involve just making tea or shredding paper as we only do the best Lavazza Italian coffee in this office. I just thought I’d get that out of the way first.

Since I started here in Bookaroom.ie in Waterford three months ago I have learned so much and even though I have another six months left I still feel that there will be an awful lot more I can learn. Only last Wednesday I learned how to scan documents onto the PC. I always wanted to know how to do this. So many times I’ve looked up at a white board with a computer-screen projected onto it with hand-written notes on the Adobe Acrobat program. I’ve often said to myself, “How does he/she put their notes onto the PC?” Now I know how it’s done and all it takes are a few mouse clicks, and so it’s easy when you know how.

Recently I have been given the responsibility of receiving rent from our tenants. This is an incredibly important job mainly because it involves imputing credit card details into the card machine and if I input just one digit incorrectly then I have to start all over again. If this happens close to 5:00pm I would miss my bus home and missing a bus could mean hanging around for another hour.

It is now November and I am still communicating with students who have decided to move away from home now that the Winter Months are fast approaching and commuting is getting harder. When I am in Railway Square or Aylesbury Manor doing viewings or inspections I ask the students how they were getting on in their new apartment and if they were missing the luxuries of home. Chatting to them and other clients has helped me develop my confidence.

When I inspect a property I have to see if it needs to be cleaned or if there is any damage. If there are issues in the property, I take photos, and then I report them and make sure they are sorted immediately.

Last week I was informed by Regina that I will be saying a few words at a Job Information event in The Park Hotel, Dungarvan on Friday the 4th of November. This event will be my first attempt at public speaking and to tell you the truth I am actually looking forward to it but extremely nervous at the same time. My photo might even end up in the local newspaper, and wouldn’t my granny be very proud.
